  •  Also known as the tetrels, crystallogens

  • The atomic radii increase down the group, and ionization energies decrease. Metallic properties increase down the group.

  • Carbon is a non-metal, silicon and germanium are metalloids, and tin and lead are poor metals (they conduct heat and electricity less effectively than other metals such as copper).

  • They are reactive because of the desire of loosing 4 or gaining 4

  • Carbon is used in graphite, lead is used to store batteries

Group 14
Group 15

  • Also known as the Nitrogen family
  • Atomic radii increase in size down the group.
  • Boiling point (amount of energy required to break bonds to change a liquid phase substance to a gas) increases down the group.
  • Group 15 is also reactive because of their desire to gain that etra 3 valence e-
  • Nitrogeni s used for fertilizers and explosives
  • While arsenic is used in medicines since it can be poisonous.
